(Redirected from Why a van)
If you need or want to live a mobile life, or at least spend some significant time on the road, why is a van the best choice? What puts the "van" in #vanlife? Well, the #vanlife and #vandwelling hashtags are popular for a reason! But the real answer is that it really doesn't have to be a van, and for many nomads it isn't. But vans are a common choice for modern nomads for several reasons:
- vans provide more living space than cars and SUVs
- some vans have a high ceiling height for more comfortable living, and most have passthrough from the cab to living space
- vans are often nondescript which can help blend in when stealth camping
- vans are easy to find and buy
- smaller vans have a low parking difficulty
- many vans have high vehicle clearance allowing for more off-road use
Cargo vans have additional benefits:
- they are usually white, which helps keep heat down in the desert regions where snowbirds are often found.
- they are bare ("a blank slate") inside; there's often nothing to remove before starting the build.
Why NOT a van? There are plenty of other choices that might work better for your needs: RVs, buses, cars, truck campers, etc. See vehicle options for more.
