Passenger vans (or window vans) are full-size vans fitted with two or more rows of bench seats behind the seats for the driver and front passenger(s). Most passenger vans seat between 10 and 15 passengers, and there are windows around the entire van. In most passenger vans, the bench seats can be removed if additional cargo area is needed.
Passenger vans can be found on the used market, retired from churches, city transit systems, school districts, etc.
Some passenger vans seat fewer than 10 people. There are also conversion vans (vans upfitted for comfort) and of course minivans. Larger passenger haulers include buses and skoolies.
Pro and Con
PRO
- maintenance records more likely to be available than with cargo vans.
- bench seat floor fittings can be used for tiedowns
- often found in extended lengths
CON
- finished (if minimal) interior would probably have to be removed for the van build
- many large windows to be covered for privacy, or insulation
- less stealth than most plain cargo vans
