Emergency preparedness

A camp setup in an SUV makes for a quick escape when needed.

Emergency preparedness for those who live nomadically is a bit different from those who live conventionally. In some ways, nomads are better equipped than others to deal with emergencies. We can leave troubled areas or avoid bad weather (storms, hurricanes, blizzards). We carry our own food and water and typically make our own power. We often carry around most or all of our possessions, and are are used to "roughing it", in campervan conditions at least.

The most extreme form of emergency avoidance is boondocking in unaffected areas.

Emergency communication devices

As part of emergency preparedness, it's valuable to have one or more emergency communication devices at your disposal. These allow you to call for help or signal your location when other mobile devices or communication methods have failed. They are often known as satellite trackers since they communicate via satellite.
