A carbon monoxide detector is an essential piece of safety equipment in your van if you do any of the following things which may create carbon monoxide, a dangerous and odorless gas:
- Cook with propane, butane, or other fuels (not electric-only cooking)
- Idle your vehicle for heat or charging batteries (not recommended in most cases)
- Heat with a diesel heater, propane heater, wood stove or other fuels
- Any other sources of combustion
