Small vehicles
In small vehicles (cars, SUVs, etc.), seats must be removed just to have enough room to successfully create a sleeping area (often a bed platform) and room for activities. In cars, note when removing the rear seats that the trunk is likely uninsulated and not soundproofed, so including the trunk in your living space may bring extra temperature concerns and it will be much louder when driving.
In some vehicles, seats are removable without tools. In nearly all cars, seats must be unbolted with a socket wrench or similar. Take care to properly disconnect wiring as needed. Check your owners manual or repair manuals to see if anything needs to be done with the wiring to account for air bag sensors, if present.
In some minivans, seats can be folded down into a floor cavity (like Stow 'N Go in Chrysler Pacifica). However, if you can remove the seats entirely, that saves significant weight and creates a lot of extra storage space in your vehicle.
