Hammocks can be sometimes be hung inside your vehicle (assuming it's a large vehicle or close to it) or moved outside when the weather is nice. They can even take the place of beds for some people, freeing up a lot of space in your vehicle for other uses. Just be sure to test your sleep quality in a hammock for a few weeks before committing to it as part of your van conversion!
Hammock mounting points
For your safety, hammock mounting points need to be capable of supporting a lot of weight. In most passenger and cargo vehicles, the door pillars are designed to support the weight of the vehicle in case of rollover, so they're a good starting point for mounting. You can run hammock straps around the pillars a few times, and then close the door(s) over the straps to keep them from sliding down. Roll your windows down a bit and wrap the straps around the top of the door frame too; however, do not wrap the straps only around the door frame since they are not designed for bearing weight in this manner. The door pillars are stronger.
For a more permanent solution, you can attach eye bolts to your vehicle. Be careful that the bolts are attached to thick metal and have large washers to distribute the forces over a larger area. You don't want the bolt to pull through the metal while you're in the hammock.
If you can attach one end of your hammock to the outside of your vehicle, you can then attach the other end of it to a tree at a park or campground.
