Tools and equipment for the road

From Nomad Life Wiki
A man sits next to his cargo van at the roadside in a rural mountainous area, preparing to repair it. Several bags and other items sit scattered on the ground next to the van.
Roadside van repairs are often a frustrating experience.

Tools and equipment you may need for the road:

For vehicle maintenance, you may want to pack:

  • filters: air, fuel
  • belts: serpentine or all belts as needed
  • fluids: trans fluid, brake fluid, motor oil
  • hoses: radiator upper and lower hoses
  • electric: bulbs, fuses

As you climb all over the camper during the build take note of all the fasteners you see: screws, bolts, allen head, square head, torx, etc.[1]

Changing tires: spare tire, jack, lugwrench

Electrical: fuses, connectors, wire stripper, distilled water for watering batteries, multimeter, extension cord for shore power, spare thermostat

Air compressors are a great thing to have on hand. Not only can your air up a tire or inflate other items, but having a compressor lets you lower your tire air pressure to increase traction (airing down) and get you out of sand or mud.
