Spare tire

From Nomad Life Wiki

A spare tire is an essential piece of safety equipment, right? Not necessarily! Depending on the type of travel you do, it might not be worth it to carry a spare around everywhere — if you have tire repair kit, tire inflator, and a roadside assistance subscription. The space where the spare usually goes can be used for a water tank or storage box, which may be more important for your needs. The weight of the tire is also fairly significant; removing an unneeded tire may save a bit of fuel over time.

CAUTION This is potentially dangerous; it is presented for your information only and may be dangerous in your situation. Make precautions and mitigate potential hazards, and proceed at your own risk. See our disclaimer for details.

If you do offroad travel or will otherwise be far from help, you almost certainly need to carry a spare.

When purchasing a vehicle, if you are converting it to a camper, consider where the spare tire lives and how that might affect conversion difficulty. If the spare is located under the vehicle, you will need to be careful not to block access to it. In some vehicles with an underbody spare, there is a screw point inside the vehicle that is used to lower the spare to the ground when it is needed; be sure not to cover this point with your flooring without including an access panel.

If you are one of the rare nomads that always travels together with another vehicle, and you both have the same tire size, only one of the vehicles needs to carry a spare.
